We care about your privacy. This page explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to keep it short and clear. If anything is unclear, send us a note.
“Upperquad,” “UQ,” “we,” and “us” mean Upper Quad LLC, a California Limited Liability Company. We’re a creative practice working in strategy, brand, interactive, and development.
This policy applies to upperquad.com and any other site or property we operate that links back to it (the “Sites”). It does not cover sites that publish their own separate privacy policy. If you have questions, reach us at privacy@upperquad.com or +1 415 424 4330.
Things you give us. If you email us, fill out a form, apply for a job, or follow us on social media, we keep what you send: typically your name, email, any message you write, and your public social handles. We may keep a record of our past conversations with you so we don’t lose context.
Things your browser sends automatically. Like most sites, we receive basic technical info: IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps, and referring URLs. We use this to keep the Sites running, fix bugs, and understand which pages people find useful.
To get back to you. If you reach out about a project, a job, or a partnership, we use what you sent to reply and continue the conversation.
To run our business. We use contact details to communicate with clients, collaborators, and suppliers. The day-to-day work of running a studio.
To meet legal obligations. When the law requires it (a court order, a regulator, fraud prevention), we’ll process information accordingly.
Inside Upperquad. Information we collect may be used internally across Upperquad and any parent, subsidiary, successor, or affiliated entity, including in the event of a future acquisition.
Trusted service providers. A small number of vendors help us run the site and respond to inquiries (hosting, email, analytics). They’re only allowed to use your information to provide their services to us, and they’re required to keep it confidential. We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
When the law requires it. We may disclose information without notice if we’re legally required to, or if it’s necessary to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or respond to abuse.
Anything you send us by email or other public channels, like questions, suggestions, comments, or project ideas, is treated as non-confidential.
Cookies are small text files a site can store in your browser to remember things between visits. We use them sparingly, mostly to keep the site running smoothly. You can accept, decline, or clear cookies at any time through your browser settings. Some interactive features may not work fully if you turn them off.
If you give us your email, you’re consenting to hear back from us about whatever you reached out about. We may also occasionally share things we’ve made.
You can opt out at any time by emailing privacy@upperquad.com or using the unsubscribe link in any email we send. We won’t share, sell, rent, or trade your email address with anyone for commercial purposes.
We use reasonable technical, physical, and administrative measures to keep your information safe. That said, no system on the internet is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee it. If you have concerns, write to us at privacy@upperquad.com.
Your data may be stored and processed in the United States or wherever we or our service providers operate. By using the Sites, you consent to that transfer, including to countries with different data protection rules than your own.
California residents. Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, you can opt out of having your personal information shared with third parties for direct marketing. To do so, email or call us. See the contact info above. (Note that this doesn’t affect non-marketing disclosures.)
Updates and access. You can review, update, or request a copy of the information you’ve given us by emailing privacy@upperquad.com.
The Sites aren’t built for children under thirteen, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe your child has sent us personal information, email privacy@upperquad.com and we’ll delete it.
The Sites sometimes link out to places we don’t control. Our policy doesn’t cover those. Give their privacy notices a read before sharing anything. We’re also not responsible for personal data picked up through social media platforms like X, LinkedIn, or Instagram.
YouTube. Some pages embed videos via YouTube (operated by YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066). We use privacy-enhanced URLs, so your data isn’t shared with YouTube unless you press play. If you’re signed into YouTube, your viewing may link to your profile. More info: policies.google.com/privacy.
Vimeo. Some pages embed videos via Vimeo (Vimeo Inc., 555 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011). When a Vimeo player loads, your IP address is sent to Vimeo. More info: vimeo.com/privacy.
Netlify. The Sites are hosted on Netlify, which logs basic request info (IP, browser, timestamps) as part of its hosting service. Form submissions (e.g. our newsletter) are processed by Netlify Forms. More info: netlify.com/privacy.
Amazon CloudFront. We use CloudFront (Amazon Web Services) to deliver video and media content. Requests may be routed through CloudFront servers, which log IP and request info. More info: aws.amazon.com/privacy.
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. The Sites don’t currently respond to it.
We may update this policy from time to time, to reflect new features, new tools, or changes in the law. Updates show up on this page with a revised effective date.
Any dispute about this policy will be settled by arbitration administered by the JAMS Safe Harbor Program under its Commercial or other Arbitration Rules. The arbitrator’s award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
